Sophia Torrenga
| Sophia Torrenga (1979) kreeg haar eerste vioollessen van haar moeder. Daarna kreeg zij les van Ineke Bredenhorst en in de vooropleiding van het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag van Mireille van der Wart. Van 1997 tot 2002 studeerde zij in Den Haag bij Peter Brunt. Van oktober 2002 tot en met januari 2003 studeerde zij als uitwisselingstudent aan de Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst te Wenen bij Professor Rainer Küchl. Daarna vervolgde zij haar studie in Den Haag bij Jaring Walta en deed in mei 2004 eindexamen Tweede Fase.
Sophia deed orkestervaring op in het Nationaal Jeugd Orkest en het Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival Orchester.
Zij is als 1e violiste verbonden aan het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest.
Sophia heeft een Thomas Gerbeth strijkstok, haar ter beschikking gesteld door het Nationaal Muziekinstrumenten Fonds.
Sophia Torrenga (1979) started playing the violin at the age of 6. She first received lessons from her mother and then from Ineke Bredenhorst. For four years Mireille van der Wart was her teacher during the preliminary course at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. After graduating from High School, she was admitted to the First Phase of the conservatory education and studied with Peter Brunt until her First Phase exam in May 2002. From October 2002 until February 2003 she was an exchange student at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, and studied there with Prof. Rainer Küchl. Sophia continued her studies (Second Phase) also in The Hague, with Jaring Walta and finished in 2004.
In addition to her activities in chamber music, Sophia acquired orchestral experience with the National Youth Orchestra of The Netherlands and the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival Orchestra in Germany. She now plays as a first violinist in the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
She plays with a Thomas Gerbeth bow, on loan to her by the National Musical Instrument Foundation.
